Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems<\/em><\/p>\n

At the invitation of the Secretary of Defense (DoD), Robert M. Gates, Irma Becerra-Fernandez <\/strong>(PhD ’94 ), professor and Pino Entrepreneurship Center director and fellow, <\/strong>will serve on the National Multidisciplinary Committee. The committee will assist DoD in conducting an independent assessment—mandated by Congress—of the participation of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions in DoD\u2019s research and educational programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow Dangerous Are Measurement Errors to Homeland Security,\u201d by D. R. Chambers; David A. Wernick<\/strong> and Mary Ann Von Glinow<\/strong> from the Department of Management and International Business; and John S. Zdanowicz<\/strong>, professor and Florida International Bankers\u2019 Association Professor in Finance, appears in the November\/December issue of Thunderbird International Business Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Department of Management and International Business<\/em><\/p>\n

Ed Glab<\/strong>, clinical professor of business and international and public affairs, was a panelist at the 2010 International Conference on Renewable Energy in Miami on November 5, 2010. The conference was titled OnlySustainable; Glab was part of a panel on bioenergy, which was moderated by Brian C. Dean, president, Gateway Florida and U.S. executive director of the Interamerican Ethanol Commission.<\/p>\n

An article titled Sad state of universities, written by Jerry Haar<\/strong>, associate dean for international affairs and projects, professor and research fellow, about Latin American universities, appeared in The Miami Herald <\/em>on November 1, 2010.<\/p>\n

Dileep Rao<\/strong>, clinical professor, had an article titled \u201cHow can Florida produce more Fortune 500 firms?\u201d published in The Miami Herald<\/em> on November 1, 2010.<\/p>\n

Wernick<\/strong>, lecturer and Mary Ann Von Glinow<\/strong>, professor and Knight Ridder Eminent Scholar Chair in International Management, and director, Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER); and John S. Zdanowicz<\/strong> from the Department of Finance and Real Estate, appears in the November\/December issue of Thunderbird International Business Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In November, the department hosted a series of seminars including Li Dai, University of Toronto, who spoke on \u201cCaught in the Crossfire: Multinational Enterprise Strategy in Warring Host Countries\u201d; Byungchae Jin, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, whose topic was \u201cSocial Movements, Institutional Logics and the Emergence of Electric and Hybrid Drive in the Electric Automotive Community from 1969-2009\u201d; and Ronaldo Parente, Rutgers University, who discussed \u201cRelational Resources, Tacit Knowledge Integration Capabilities and Business Performance.\u201d Aya Chacar<\/strong>, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, organizes the seminars.<\/p>\n
