Though graduates of the Executive MBA at Florida International University (FIU) often maintain close relationships with their classmates, a reunion across all the EMBA groups, brought approximately 100 EMBA alumni together for a full day of activities. The event, which took place on Homecoming Weekend, began with a networking lunch at which Executive Dean Joyce J. Elam<\/strong> presented a leadership session focused on Marshall Goldsmith\u2019s book What Got You Here Won\u2019t Get You There.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHer talk got our intellectual juices flowing, like when we were in school,\u201d Alberto Padron<\/strong> (EMBA \u201909) said.<\/p>\n

Attendees at a networking luncheon heard Joyce J. Elam speak about leadership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Another reminder of their days as graduate students: Operation Explore.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperation Explore, the teambuilding company we have used for every EMBA class, ran an \u201cEMBA Challenge,\u201d—a scavenger hunt with randomly assigned teams,\u201d said Sarah Perez<\/strong>, director, Executive MBA, who had the idea for the reunion.<\/p>\n

Members of Operation Explore guided team-building activities, just as they do for each EMBA class.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cThe team structure made it possible for us to make new friends outside our own group,\u201d said Padron, who also helped provide direction for a College of Business Administration tailgate party, held in the College of Business Complex courtyard.<\/p>\n

During the scavenger hunt, participants had to complete tasks such as getting a photo of the best view on campus or a picture of an item that starts with a particular letter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

At the tailgate party—an event made even more festive because it was Homecoming and the campus was bustling—a raffle that further showcased EMBA graduates\u2019 accomplishments, took place.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had incredible prizes from EMBA entrepreneurs,\u201d Perez said. \u201cCybele Chamas<\/strong> (EMBA \u201904 ), Corpo Yoga Studio<\/a>, donated yoga classes; Ken Ninomya<\/strong> (EMBA 03), ekn Links<\/a>, contributed a strategic management session and marketing plan assistance as well as two sets of signed children\u2019s books: Rusty’s Lemonade Stand<\/em> and Suki’s Short Summer;<\/em> and Jorge Murillo<\/strong> (EMBA \u201908), Blue Water Journeys, donated a cruise for two aboard the 62-passenger Sea Voyager in Colombia.\u201d<\/p>\n

FIU Business alumni participate in Homecoming.<\/em><\/p>\n

The same day, the FIU Alumni Association hosted its fifth annual Silver Pride reunion for graduates from the class of 1985 and earlier at the FIU Stadium Club. Ten alumni of the college were inducted into Silver Pride, and along with their guests, participated in a lively array of activities including brunch, a campus tour, the Homecoming parade, a visit to the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum and the Homecoming game itself.<\/p>\n
