\u201cEmployers often tell us that some of their companies\u2019 best performers are graduates of Florida International University (FIU),\u201d said Dawn Lazar (MS \u201906), assistant director, Career Management Services, School of Accounting. \u201cOur Ahead of the Game Expo lets recruiters meet ideal candidates from FIU\u2019s accounting, finance and management information systems (MIS)\u00a0 programs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ahead of the Game Accounting and Business Expo, the third of its kind, was held on campus on September 29th. More than 370 students registered for the event, giving them an ideal chance to interact with representatives from thirty highly rated companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly accounting, finance and MIS students can attend,\u201d Lazar said. \u201cThey must sign-up for the expo in advance and are qualified only if have a 3.0 GPA or better, are registered with Career Management Services, have an approved r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and are less than one year before or after graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two student accounting organizations in the College of Business Administration hosted the expo: Beta Alpha Psi, the international accounting honor society, and ALPFA at FIU \/ALPFA Honor Society for accounting, finance and business related majors.<\/p>\n

\u201cCandidates have the chance to learn about opportunities available at outstanding companies,\u201d said event co-organizer Abraham Grimaldo, president-elect of Beta Alpha Psi. \u201cThey can present themselves, personally hand over a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and talk with recruiters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the students enter the Expo, you can tell they\u2019re nervous,\u201d said Kevin Zamora, president-elect of ALPFA at FIU, who organized the event with Grimaldo. \u201cBut once they start meeting with the recruiters and see how well regarded FIU students are, the nervousness turns into high energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fourth Ahead of the Game Accounting and Business Expo will take place January 27, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
