Two FIU honor students were among the 80 to attend the National Student Leadership Forum in Memphis, Tennessee in November.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nBruno Cevallos, majoring in finance, international business and economics, is enthusiastic about what he gained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI learned that leaders need to face doubts, realizing that uncertainty can be part of leadership,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
One of the most comprehensive days of the forum centered on \u201cLearning to Read the Signs: What Kind of Leader Can I Be?\u201d The challenging self-discovery program helped these high-achievers learn to uncover the values driving business and personal decisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor instance, being unhappy in your work is a sign you\u2019re not where you should be,\u201d Cevallos said.<\/p>\n
Both students appreciated networking with the 80 students attending the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s almost weird to feel such an instant connection,\u201d Medina said. \u201cThere was so much commonality in goals, achievements, even personalities. We talked about everything from our universities to internship opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also got to see a bit of Memphis, including having dinner at Graceland, Elvis Presley\u2019s home,\u201d Cevallos said.<\/p>\n
Beta Gamma Sigma is a mark of excellence.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n\u201cThis honor society actively promotes and recognizes academic excellence at FIU\u2019s business college,\u201d said chapter advisor Clifford Perry. \u201cBeta Gamma Sigma, recognized by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), provides students with a lifetime membership and lets them place this academic distinction on their r\u00e9sum\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since 2002, Beta Gamma Sigma at FIU has inducted the top 10 percent of the undergraduate class and the top 20 percent of the graduate class.<\/p>\n
Executive Dean Joyce J. Elam is a board member for the national organization.<\/p>\n
