{"id":16112,"date":"2012-04-18T20:45:50","date_gmt":"2012-04-18T20:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/?p=16112"},"modified":"2017-11-03T10:27:59","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T14:27:59","slug":"high-turnout-for-combo-msf-and-msire-alumni-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/2012\/04\/high-turnout-for-combo-msf-and-msire-alumni-event\/","title":{"rendered":"High turnout for combo MSF and MSIRE alumni event."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Often, logical thinking works best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause alumni from the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/graduate\/finance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Master of Science in Finance<\/a> (MSF) and <a href=\"https:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/graduate\/international-real-estate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Master of Science in International Real Estate<\/a> (MSIRE) programs have much in common, in 2011 we held a networking event for both groups,\u201d said Isabel Lopez (MIB \u201906, BBA \u201903), associate director of Finance and Real Estate Graduate Programs in the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University (FIU). \u201cThe idea worked so well that when we repeated it this March, our attendance went from 40 people to almost 70.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the direction of Ferinelys Cabrera (MIB \u201909), program coordinator for the Department of Finance and Real Estate, alumni gathered at the Tarpon Bend restaurant in Coral Gables for the MSF and MSIRE Alumni Networking Event on March 7, 2012, an evening of networking, socializing, hors d\u2019oeuvres and drinks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16113\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16113 size-full\" title=\"MSF and MSIRE Alumni Networking\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/MSF-and-MSIRE-Alumni-Networking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16113\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The MSF and MSIRE Alumni Networking Event brought together nearly 70 alumni, faculty and staff.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Melissa Myers (MSIRE \u201907) appreciated catching up with classmates and also meeting a few current graduate students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBest of all, I got a terrific tip from a fellow alumni about how to overcome an obstacle in a real estate situation that I was working on,\u201d Myers said. \u201cNetworking is fun and valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The gathering drew several faculty members including Chun-Hao Chang, chair of the Department of Finance and Real Estate, Shahid S. Hamid, professor in the department and William Hardin, director of real estate programs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16114\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16114\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16114 size-full\" title=\"Liu Wong Wong Cardero Chang\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Liu-Wong-Wong-Cardero-Chang.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jianjun Liu, Leandro Wong and his wife, Arnaldo Carderon and Chun-Hao Chang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Raquel Wright-Mair (MSc \u201908), the college\u2019s assistant director, advancement, alumni and corporate relations, addressed the group about alumni opportunities and gave away raffle prizes.<\/p>\n<p><em>The good idea will continue.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the great success of this event, we\u2019re planning on offering a MSF and MSIRE Alumni Networking Event twice a year,\u201d Lopez said. \u201cWe got positive feedback from attendees.
