David R. Klock, PhD, has been appointed dean of the College of Business and Ryder Eminent Scholar in Business, effective October 1, 2012, succeeding Joyce J. Elam, who became dean in 1998.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Klock\u2019s distinguished record as an academic and entrepreneurial leader makes him an excellent choice to lead the College of Business forward in its mission,\u201d said Florida International University (FIU) Provost and Executive Vice President Douglas Wartzok. \u201cHe has a proven record of cultivating strong external support for the university\u2019s goals during challenging financial times. Also, he has shown enormous personal generosity to his university community, and he understands the leadership role the College of Business can play in expanding our community\u2019s entrepreneurial footprint.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently dean of the School of Business at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and Wells Fargo Chair of Business Administration, he has held other administrative and academic positions; was president, chief executive officer and then chairman of CompBenefits Corporation (sold to Humana in 2006); and serves on many corporate boards.<\/p>\n

Deans share enthusiasm over appointment.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI am honored to be chosen to lead FIU\u2019s College of Business, an organization that is an exceptional international center of respected research, student growth and a true champion of entrepreneurship under Joyce Elam\u2019s leadership,\u201d said Klock, whose bachelor\u2019s degree is in finance from Northeastern University in Boston, and whose master\u2019s degree and doctorate are in finance from the University of Illinois<\/em> at Champaign<\/em>-Urbana<\/em>. <\/em>\u201cI look forward to expanding on the college\u2019s outstanding reputation in international business and extending its global reach.\u201d<\/p>\n
