Jerry Haar, professor, participated in an Economy Q&A<\/a> with Jeff Atwater, Florida\u2019s chief financial officer. The conversation was published in the Summer 2012 issue of Florida\u2019s Bottom Line<\/em>. Haar also was quoted in the Miami Toda<\/em>y edition of the week of August 9, 2012 in an article titled \u201cRetired professionals, FIU entrepreneurship center team up<\/a>.\u201d Karyne Bury (IMBA \u201908), the marketing and events manager of the Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center, also was quoted in the article.<\/p>\n

Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership; Nathan Hiller, associate professor; and the FIU Center for Leadership (CFL) presented the inaugural Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Outstanding Dissertation Award at the Academy of Management\u2019s Network of Leadership Scholars award reception on August 5, 2012, in Boston, Massachusetts. The award is presented to an individual whose dissertation makes an outstanding contribution to the field of leadership. This year\u2019s recipient is Stephen Courtright, who will be presenting his research at the CFL\u2019s Annual Research Colloquium on October 23, 2012.<\/p>\n

As current president of the Academy of International Business (AIB), Mary Ann Von Glinow, professor and Knight Ridder Eminent Scholar Chair in International Management, gave the Presidential Address at the organization\u2019s 2012 Annual Meeting, held in Washington, DC, from June 30-July 3, 2012. She spoke about a number of changes that she has guided during and prior to her taking office in 2010. In addition, she made two presentations with three doctoral students in the department at the Academy of Management\u2019s (AOM) annual meeting, \u201cThe Informal Economy,\u201d in Boston, Massachusetts, August 3-7, 2012. Von Glinow was president of AOM in 1994-1995. The first presentation, with Yannick Thams and Ying Liu, was entitled \u201cAsian Favors: More than a Cookie Cutter Approach,\u201d and is now in press at Asia Pacific Journal of Management<\/em>\u201d; the second, entitled \u201cOrganizing the Un-Organized: Exploring Organizational Forms of Informal Sector Firms\u201d was with Indu Kaveti Rao. In December, she will address AIB\u2019s SE Asia Region at their annual meeting in Xiamen, China, on the \u201cState of the State of AIB.\u201d She is co-author of Global Leadership<\/em>, in press at Oxford University Press, and with FIU colleague David Wernick (PhD \u201911), senior lecturer, \u201cIndividual and Organizational Learning,\u201d in Voice: Overcoming Fear, Fostering Courage, and Unleashing Candor in Organizations<\/em>, in press at Edward Elgar Publishing.<\/p>\n

Kimberly Taylor, associate professor and Macy’s Retailing Chair, led a live chat on the Sun Sentinel<\/em>\u2019s website to discuss the future of Chick-fil-A and the impact its president\u2019s comments against gay marriage will have on the company. The chat, which took place on August 2, 2012, drew 51 participants.
