Nancy Borkowski, clinical associate professor, and Barbara Perez-Deppman, College of Nursing and Health Sciences adjunct, co-authored the article, \u201cHealthcare managers need to be collaborative leaders to meet tomorrow’s challenges,\u201d published in the South Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Reporter<\/em>\u2019s August 2012 issue. She was also part of a Q&A in a CareCloud blog <\/a>on July 23, 2012.<\/p>\n

Joyce J. Elam, professor and James L. Knight Eminent Scholar Chair in Management Information Systems, was awarded the Outstanding Leadership in Administration of Online Programs Award through the Florida Distance Learning Association. The statewide award was presented at the organization\u2019s annual conference \u201cEmbracing Quality in Online Learning,\u201d held in Orlando, Florida, September 13-15, 2012.<\/p>\n

Department of Finance and Real Estate<\/em><\/p>\n

On September 20, 2012, Suzanne Hollander, visiting instructor, led a national panel at the Crittenden National Real Estate Finance Conference on the topic of retail development. Panelists were Wal-Mart\u2019s vice president of real estate nationally; vice president of real estate at Stiles, the developer for Publix; and BB&T\u2019s senior vice president of commercial lending. Industry leaders from throughout the country attended the conference, which took place in South Beach Miami, Florida.<\/p>\n

Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Tibor and Sheila Hollo Research Fellow, was quoted in an article titled\u201cFlorida home prices bottomed earlier than previously thought, according to one study<\/a>,\u201d in the Palm Beach Post<\/em> on September 19, 2012 and \u201cPompano rentals planned<\/a>,\u201d which appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em> on September 3, 2012.<\/p>\n

Edward Lawrence, associate professor, received a <\/em>Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching at the Faculty Convocation on September 27, 2012.<\/p>\n

At the recommendation of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Emmanuel N. Roussakis, professor, received a U.S. Department of State grant. Selected to join the Fulbright Specialists Roster, he is qualified to extend academic services as a specialist to educational institutions abroad over the next five years. As a result of this grant, he received several invitations to spend time with institutions abroad presenting lectures at the graduate and undergraduate level; participating in, or leading seminars and workshops; and consulting with administrators and scholars of host institutions on faculty development. In late October 2012, he will offer these kinds of services at the Moscow International Higher Business School, the college\u2019s Executive MBA partner institution in Russia. The specialist grant is the third consecutive one he has received. Previously, he was one of a few U.S. faculty members selected to lecture at the Fulbright International Summer Institute in Bulgaria and the prior year he was assigned to the prestigious Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs the role business schools should play in promoting corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investing a globalized standard? Results from an exploratory study of German and US institutions,\u201d co-authored by Stephen Barnett, visiting professor, and Walfried Lassar, professor and Ryder Professorship Chair, Department of Marketing, was presented at the Academy of Business Education Annual Meeting, held in Charleston, South Carolina, September 13-15, 2012.<\/p>\n

Jerry Haar, professor, was quoted in \u201cMomentum growing behind hatching a tech hub<\/a>,\u201d an article in The Miami Herald<\/em> on October 1, 2012. His article \u201cBipartisan Congressional effort a boost for entrepreneurs<\/a>\u201d appeared in The Miami Herald<\/em> on July 29, 2012 and he was part of a Q&A in a CareCloud blog <\/a>on July 23, 2012.<\/p>\n

Nathan Hiller, associate professor, is a visiting scholar at Cornell University during the fall semester, the first part of his sabbatical.<\/p>\n
