The social media presence of the College of Business at Florida International University (FIU) has been acknowledged as one of the top in the nation. In its evaluation of the Top 100 Social Media Friendly Schools<\/a>, OnlineMBAPage.com placed FIU Business 22nd<\/sup>. The ranking assessed more than 400 campus-based business schools. Stanford University, Harvard University and The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania took the top three spots.<\/p>\n

The survey awarded points for the school\u2019s activities on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Pinterest and Flickr.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The college ranked sixth for its Flickr<\/a><\/span> site, which hosted over 11,000 photos at the time the survey was conducted, 21st<\/sup> for its Facebook<\/a> presence, with more than 14,000 followers; 29th<\/sup> for YouTube<\/a>; 45th<\/sup> for LinkedIn<\/a>; and 62nd<\/sup> for Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

College monitors sites carefully, plans to expand.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOn Facebook, I am planning to incorporate more external articles that are relevant to our audience, more videos and more photos,\u201d said Veronica Perez (MBA \u201912, BBA \u201908), marketing manager, Marketing and Communications, who has handled the college\u2019s social media efforts since late in 2010. \u201cAmong other tasks, I create ads, monitor the performance of each site and field or redirect questions that visitors post.\u201d<\/p>\n

With social media a growing method for colleges to interact with prospects, alumni and other constituencies, Perez has been researching what other business schools are doing to maximize their use of these increasingly important platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe established the Facebook account in 2008, began using it more regularly in 2009 and have extended its use starting in 2010,\u201d she said. \u201cThe fact that we have already been placed in the same company as some of the country\u2019s leading business schools motivates us to identify even more ways that we can spread the word about FIU Business through these new communication tools.\u201d<\/p>\n
