Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems<\/em><\/p>\n Stylianos Drakatos, adjunct, learned his course, Application of Quantitative Methods (QM) in Business<\/em>, received QM certification.<\/p>\n Department of Finance<\/em><\/p>\n Deanne Butchey (PhD \u201905), senior lecturer, was quoted in \u201cFlorida International University attempts to infuse global learning across the curriculum<\/a>,\u201d in Inside Higher Ed<\/em> on February 2, 2013.<\/p>\n \u201cDebt IPO Waves,\u201d a co-authored paper by Xiaoquan Jiang, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, won the World Scientific Publishing award for an outstanding paper in corporate finance research. Given by the Midwest Finance Association (MFA)—whose conference program includes 384 papers—the award will be presented at the annual MFA membership meeting March 15, 2013.<\/p>\n Emmanuel N. Roussakis, professor, has received a U.S. Department of State Fulbright award in Indonesia this term. It is the fourth consecutive year he has won the award; this time to present lectures at the graduate and undergraduate levels, conduct a faculty seminar on case study writing and assist in the development and\/or assessment of academic curricula at Brawijaya University, in Malang, Indonesia. Prior to his stay in Indonesia, he has been invited to visit Ramkhamhaeng University, in Bangkok, Thailand, where he will lecture graduate and undergraduate students throughout the month of March.<\/p>\n Department of Management and International Business<\/em><\/p>\n A presentation by Sumit K. Kundu, professor and James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, at the Society for Global Business and Economic Development 2012 conference, has been accepted as a book chapter to be published in July 2013.
\nModesto A. Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, along with the Center for Leadership, hosted Miami Leadership Summit IV, a gathering of more than 60 of Miami\u2019s business, community and civic leaders on February 12, 2013. The focus of this summit was civic engagement and how the citizens of Miami can help to \u201cEngage, Miami!\u201d He wrote an op-ed piece, What greater Miami can do to achieve greatness<\/a>, summarizing the results of the four Miami Leadership Summits,which was published on February 17, 2013 by The Miami Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n
