Monica Chiarini Tremblay, associate professor, and Gloria Deckard, associate professor and associate dean of the Landon Undergraduate School, presented the seminar \u201cOne Size Doesn\u2019t Fit All: Observations from the Process Evaluation of HIE in Four States: Alabama, Florida, Illinois and Rhode Island\u201d on October 10, 2013 as part of the CHiP (Center for Healthcare Informatics and Policy) Seminar Series at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.<\/p>\n

Department of Finance<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deanne Butchey, senior lecturer, was quoted in a Sun-Sentinel online article \u201cPrepaid tuition plan: still a good deal?\u201d on October 29, 2013.<\/p>\n

John S. Zdanowicz, professor, wrote \u201cInternational Trade Mispricing: Trade-Based Money Laundering and Tax Evasion,\u201d for the Research Handbook on Money Laundering, from Edward Elgar Publishing, Inc. 2013. Also, Zdanowicz was the keynote speaker, addressing the topic of trade-based money laundering at Compliance Services Caribbean\u2019s annual compliance conference which took place in Aruba and Curacao from October 5-9, 2013.<\/p>\n

Department of Management and International Business<\/strong><\/p>\n

An article by Jerry Haar, professor, titled Intrapreneurs\u2019 are crucial to driving innovation,\u201d was published in the Business Monday section of the Miami Herald on October 21, 2013.<\/p>\n

Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership and executive director of the Center for Leadership, hosted The Chapman Leadership Honors on October 3, 2013. Alberto Ibarg\u00fcen, president and CEO of The Knight Foundation, received the Transcendent Leader Award and Susan Amat, founder of Venture Hive, received the inaugural Emerging Leader Award.\u00a0 On October 18, Maidique hosted Martin Seligman, the leading authority in the field of Positive Psychology, as the opening lecturer of the 2013-14 Leadership Lecture series presented by the Center for Leadership. Maidique also was the keynote speaker at the 2013 Legacy Lecture series presented by FIU\u2019s Order of the Torch on October 7, and on October 15, he served as the education expert on the MIT Enterprise Forum Panel, \u201cSouth Beach to Silicon Beach.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the 2013 Geopolitical Summit, \u201cAmerica at the Crossroads: Power and Strategy in U.S. Foreign Relations,\u201d held at FIU, David A. Wernick, senior lecturer, was a panelist in the session with featured speaker Moises Naim, a senior associate in the International Economics Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The session was entitled \u201cThe End of Power: From Boardrooms to Battlefields and Churches to States.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dileep Rao, clinical professor, wrote on op-ed column, \u201cDileep Rao on Developing Caribbean Entrepreneurs,\u201d for the October 28, 2013 edition of the Caribbean Journal.<\/p>\n

Department of Marketing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peter Magnusson, assistant professor, was program chair for the Academy of International Business – Southeast USA (AIB-SE) Conference held October 24-27, 2013. The theme of this year’s conference was \u201cInnovations, Institutions & Emerging Markets.\u201d Next year\u2019s conference will be hosted by FIU, October 24-26, 2014.<\/p>\n

Magnusson has had his paper \u201cThe Spillover Effects of Prototype Brand Transgressions on Country Image and Related Brands\u201d accepted in the Journal of International Marketing.<\/p>\n

Carlos M. Parra, clinical professor, presented results of research he is doing with Nestle and a Dominican Republic microfinance institution at Forito Microfranquicias in Guadalajara, Mexico. This all-day microfranchise forum held in October is the most prominent regional event on microfinance.<\/p>\n
