School of Accounting<\/em><\/p>\n Brent Lao, assistant professor, presented an academic study on January 11, 2014 at the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section conference in Houston, Texas, sponsored by the American Accounting Association.<\/p>\n Jonathan Milian, assistant professor, presented his research paper \u201cOverreacting to a History of Underreaction?\u201d at the annual meeting of the American Finance Association on January 5, 2014 in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems<\/em><\/p>\n Monica Chiarini Tremblay, associate professor, served as prototype demo chair for the 23rd Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS) and as session chair for the healthcare track at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Both events were held in Milan, Italy in December, 2013.<\/p>\n Department of Management and International Business<\/em><\/p>\n An op-ed column titled \u201cU.S. immigration policy undermines our competitiveness\u201d by Jerry Haar, professor, appeared in the Miami Herald<\/em> on January 7, 2014.<\/p>\n Harr was also quoted in a BloombergBusinessweek<\/em> article \u201cVenezuela Post-Ch\u00e1vez: Hustlers’ Paradise\u201d by Roben Farzad on January 16, 2014.<\/p>\n Department of Marketing<\/em><\/p>\n Assistant Professor Peter Magnusson\u2019s paper \u201cA Process-Based Explanation of the Psychic Distance Paradox: Evidence from Global Virtual Teams\u201d has been accepted for publication in Management International Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate<\/em><\/p>\n Bill Hardin, director, was featured in a Miami Herald<\/em> article on January 6, 2014 entitled \u201cQ&A: FIU\u2019s William G. Hardin speaks about South Florida real estate\u201d by Martha Brannigan. Hardin was also recently recognized for his service as an external reviewer for Real Estate Economics<\/em>, academic real estate\u2019s top journal. He also served as a panelist at the FIU REAAC (Real Estate Alumni Affinity Council) 2014 Outlook Conference on January 30, 2013. More than 180 attended the event.<\/p>\n Suzanne Hollander, visiting instructor, received the 2014 Thelma Gibson Award of Excellence in recognition of her contribution of real estate education to the community. The award is given by the Women\u2019s Chamber of Commerce of Miami-Dade County at the Biltmore Hotel on January 23, 2014.<\/p>\n
