Faculty Notes February 2014 <\/strong><\/p>\n School of Accounting<\/em><\/p>\n David W. Barman (JD \u201905), instructor, was the guest speaker at the Aventura Inventors and Entrepreneur Group meeting on February 11, 2014. His topic was \u201cIntellectual Property Law for the New Entrepreneur.\u201d<\/p>\n Manny Pravia (MST \u201992), adjunct, presented a Federal Tax Update at the Cuban<\/strong>–<\/strong>American CPA<\/strong> Association\u00a0Annual Tax Update Seminar in Miami, Florida on February 8, 2014.<\/p>\n Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems<\/em><\/p>\n A paper co-authored by George Marakas (PhD \u201996), visiting professor, was published in the Information Systems Research<\/em> journal. The article is entitled \u201cPLS and Models with Formatively-Specified Endogenous Constructs: A Cautionary Note.\u201d \u00a0Marakas was also voted Best Professor by two separate groups: the most recent graduating MBA cohort in the Panama program and the current PMBA graduating cohort.<\/p>\n Department of Finance<\/em><\/p>\n A paper co-authored by Xiaoquan Jiang, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was selected as one of the \u201cOutstanding Articles\u201d published in the Journal of Financial Research<\/em> in 2013. The article was entitled \u201cDebt IPO Waves, Investor Sentiment, Market Conditions, and Issue Quality.\u201d<\/p>\n Helen K. Simon, senior instructor, has been named the 2014 Practitioner Thought Leader winner by The Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA). Simon will be presented with an award at the RIIA Spring Conference to be held March 17 and 18, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to her experience and expertise, Simon\u2019s paper, \u201cFinancial Behaviors of Clients in or Near Retirement: What Advisers Need to Know,\u201d to be published in the Spring 2014 issue of the Retirement Management Journal,<\/em> was cited by the association as instrumental in the decision.<\/p>\n Department of Management and International Business<\/em><\/p>\n Sumit K. Kundu, professor and James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, has been elected to serve for three years on the Executive Board of the Academy of International Business (AIB), as vice president, Administration. He will join the board in August, 2014 at AIB\u2019s annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada.<\/p>\n Ronaldo Parente, associate professor, has been elected to serve as associate program chair for the Global Strategy Interest Group at the Strategic Management Society.<\/p>\n
