Students attended the reception with their parents as well as the lead teachers from their schools.<\/p>\n
Millie Fornell, chief of staff for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, praised the students\u2019 work. She told the group that her daughter earned bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in Accounting from FIU\u2019s College of Business.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot say enough about the quality of education she received,\u201d Fornell said.<\/p>\n
Also congratulating the students were, from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Dr. Lupe Ferran Diaz, executive director in the Department of Career and Technical Education, and Robert Quinn, educational specialist; also, event organizers from FIU\u2019s State Farm Financial Literacy Lab: Flavio Carrillo, faculty director, and Katherine Grau, lab manager.<\/p>\n
Students show promise, receive encouragement.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/em><\/p>\nGrau noted the high quality of the students\u2019 writing.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou should be very proud of your work,\u201d she told the winners.<\/p>\n
The stories of perseverance that the speakers shared with the students had an impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat impressed me the most was the message to never give up and to follow your dreams,\u201d said Holtzman.<\/p>\n
