{"id":23356,"date":"2014-09-24T19:33:57","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T19:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/?p=23356"},"modified":"2017-06-27T15:10:03","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T19:10:03","slug":"fiu-honors-alumni-success-and-entrepreneurs-share-valuable-insights-during-hall-of-fame-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/2014\/09\/fiu-honors-alumni-success-and-entrepreneurs-share-valuable-insights-during-hall-of-fame-celebrations\/","title":{"rendered":"FIU Business alumni honored, shares success stories at Hall of Fame celebrations."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High-profile South Florida business leaders filled the FIU Arena to celebrate successful alumni during the College of Business\u2019 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on September 12.<\/p>\n<p>The gala honored dynamic individuals who through their vision and leadership have made lasting contributions to their companies, their communities, and the FIU College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach one of our honorees took the lessons they learned here at FIU and turned them into world-class success stories,\u201d said FIU president Mark\u00a0B.\u00a0Rosenberg.\u00a0 \u201cThat is what we are about: the opportunity to build something for future generations, just as others have built for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Philanthropist R. Klock.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 2014 Hall of Fame inductees included the founder of a home-grown global fashion brand, a prominent local artist, and three banking and investment executives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alexander Mijares \u2013MBA &#8217;11, COO, MJM Manufacturing;\u00a0Artist.<\/li>\n<li>Alina Villasante \u2013 Alumna, designer &amp; creator Peace Love World<\/li>\n<li>Guillermo G. Castillo \u2013 BBA \u201981, president, Middle Market Banking JP Morgan Chase<\/li>\n<li>Eric Maldonado \u2013 BBA \u201986, managing director, Markit<\/li>\n<li>Randy Robertson \u2013 BBA \u201984, managing director, BlackRock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am proud that each of the honorees has maintained a unique association with our FIU College of Business, as supporters, role models and mentors,\u201d said business college dean David R. Klock. \u201cYou have given us the greatest gift by sharing a belief in our college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>New events add to the Hall of Fame anniversary celebration. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hof-panel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23371\" title=\"hof-panel\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hof-panel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hof-panel.jpg 550w, https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hof-panel-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To mark the Hall of Fame\u2019s 15<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, the event expanded to three days and included a panel discussion featuring College of Business Hall of Fame inductees who shared valuable lessons with current COB students and fellow alumni, as well as a football tailgate celebration.<\/p>\n<p>At the panel discussion, participants offered insights on topics including challenges faced, lessons learned, memories of their days at FIU, and details about how their FIU education has impacted their careers. The panel featured:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ignacio Urbieta &#8211; MBA &#8217;85, CEO, Urbieta Oil Co.<\/li>\n<li>Mayi de la Vega &#8211; BBA &#8217;81, CEO and founder, ONE Sotheby&#8217;s International Realty<\/li>\n<li>Malcolm Butters &#8211; MS &#8217;83, president and co-founder, Butters Construction &amp; Development<\/li>\n<li>Tibor Hollo \u2013 president, Florida East Coast Realty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The panel discussion also included panelists\u2019 insights on dealing with rejection, the skills they look for in new hires and their secrets to success.
