As they prepare for adventures in the global business world, undergraduate and graduate students at Florida International University’s (FIU) College of Business received an in-depth look at the college’s international programs and how to apply.

“One of the reasons for the fair is to let students know that studying abroad is an option,” said Jennifer Hilton Montero, director of the COB’s Office of International Affairs & Projects. “We found that a lot of them didn’t know much about the programs.”

"international-2"Options include the International Dual Degree Business Program, which offers both a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Additionally, the COB offers specialized master’s programs in fields ranging from finance and human resources management to international business and management information systems.

In each program, students obtain a business degree at FIU and another at one of 40 partner universities in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Trinidad/West Indies and Uruguay.

“It’s two degrees in two years,” said Hilton Montero. The most popular option at the COB’s International Study Opportunities Fair: the Masters in International Business.

Students have a full menu of options at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Katrina Simons attended the November 6 fair as part of her quest to identify the right master’s program for her, particularly those with dual degree and study abroad components.

“The international MBA is the one I’m really looking at,” said Simons, an undergraduate majoring in international business and marketing. “It’s a program that gives me the general as well as the international side of the business.”

Interested students met one-on-one with representatives from each of the business programs offering international study courses and were also able to obtain information on funding and scholarships.

More than 500 students enrolled at the COB have studied, researched or interned abroad in dozens of countries. Registration for the spring semester of 2015 is closed, but enrollment is open for the fall 2015 program.

Dominique Greene, a senior majoring in international business, is interested in the international MBA program. By studying abroad, she noted, “I’ll actually get firsthand experience of business in another country.”
