{"id":24948,"date":"2015-02-03T16:30:45","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T21:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/?p=24948"},"modified":"2016-05-19T13:26:29","modified_gmt":"2016-05-19T17:26:29","slug":"spectacular-art-donation-enhances-fiu-downtown-on-brickell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/2015\/02\/spectacular-art-donation-enhances-fiu-downtown-on-brickell\/","title":{"rendered":"Spectacular art donation enhances FIU Downtown on Brickell."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our soul,\u201d Pablo Picasso once said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24954\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-03.jpg\" alt=\"artwork-03\" width=\"590\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many Florida International University (FIU) students, faculty and visitors would agree with Picasso\u2019s words, as they enjoy viewing new art displayed in offices, hallways and gathering spots in the College of Business offices at FIU Downtown on Brickell.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24955\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-02.jpg\" alt=\"artwork-02\" width=\"590\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>International artist Karim Ghidinelli has made a gift of eight spectacular oil on hand engraved aluminum pieces, some large, some monumental in size.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted these pieces to have a proper place,\u201d says Ghidinelli, who currently lives in Miami. \u201cI am a strong believer in education; just as there is art for art\u2019s sake, there should be education for education\u2019s sake. My gift brings those two together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24952\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-05.jpg\" alt=\"artwork-05\" width=\"590\" height=\"393\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ghidinelli said much thought goes into the text he uses in his art and he hopes people take the time to read the words he selected. \u201cMy work is based upon passage, mark and assurance,\u201d he says. \u201cIdentity is naturally a part of the evolutionary process of the passage; the mark is embodied by my distinctive trace on the page.\u201d \u201cThe FIU Chapman Graduate School of Business is thrilled to be selected for this gift,\u201d said Angel Burgos, executive director of MBA programs at FIU. \u201cWe know that art has the ability to transform communities, as we have seen during our five years of working to \u2018make space for art\u2019 at FIU\u2019s Brickell center.\u201d The FIU Downtown on Brickell facility is located in the heart of Downtown Miami at the iconic office towers at 1101 Brickell Avenue.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ghidinelli\u2019s rich background becomes part of his work.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24950\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/artwork-07.jpg\" alt=\"artwork-07\" width=\"250\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a>A global perspective is apparent in Ghidinelli\u2019s art. Born in Italy, the artist has lived and studied around the world, including Ethiopia, Namibia and England. In Savannah, Georgia, he earned BFA and MFA degrees at the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design.<\/p>\n<p>Ghidinelli\u2019s work has been featured in an impressive list of exhibits around the world, including solo shows recently at the Galerie Le Royer in Montreal and now at Cheryl Hazan Gallery in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur executive and professional MBA students on their own intellectual journeys will be enriched by Ghidinelli\u2019s artistic insights,\u201d said Burgos. \u201cMiami\u2019s thriving art scene and Brickell\u2019s growing cultural life will be enlivened as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" align=\"middle\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"400\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/slideShow\/index.gne?group_id=&amp;user_id=23794481@N04&amp;set_id=72157649966754889\/show\" width=\"100%\" ><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our soul,\u201d Pablo Picasso once said.
