Elam<\/strong>, executive dean, College of Business Administration, Florida International University (FIU) has appointed <strong>Irma Becerra-Fernandez<\/strong> (PhD \u201994) director of the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/centers\/pino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eugenio Pino and Family Global Entrepreneurship Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2659\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2659\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2659 size-full\" title=\"Irma Becerra-Fernandez\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/irma-resized.jpg\" alt=\"Irma Becerra-Fernandez\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2659\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Irma Becerra-Fernandez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe Pino Center will have a new focus on innovation,\u201d said Becerra-Fernandez, Knight Ridder Center Research Professor and professor, Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems. \u201cWe plan to help new entrepreneurs create innovative ventures&#8212;ventures that create jobs, which in turn create economic spillover into communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Outreach through South Florida and Latin America planned, support needed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to her, \u201cWe feel we can make a difference by accelerating the growth of entrepreneurship in South Florida, and if we further extend our efforts to Latin America, we can have a huge impact. Many South Florida ventures have strong ties to Latin America and there is no border separating us, only the ocean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Becerra-Fernandez looks forward to working with staff members <strong>Lauren Suarez<\/strong> (MIB \u201908, BBA \u201905), assistant director; <strong>Arlette Prats<\/strong>, program assistant; and <strong>Karyne Bury<\/strong> (IMBA \u201908), marketing and events coordinator, and is also is seeking sponsors to help support the center\u2019s work.
