It\u2019s no wonder then that the demand for the child care soon grew.<\/p>\n<p>However, the school could only take 35 children, leaving the business at the break-even point. Aurubin knew she had to expand. After all, putting kids on a waiting list or turning kids away was not part of the mission.<\/p>\n<p>She needed to find more money, but where?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s as if her prayers were answered when Aurubin received an email about a free workshop on access-to-capital assistance and met a finance specialist with the <a href=\"http:\/\/sbdc.fiu.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Small Business Development Center<\/a> at Florida International University.<\/p>\n<p>Working with the Florida SBDC at FIU consultant, who provided financial guidance, she applied for a loan and got the money to expand.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tX9asls5Eew?rel=0\" width=\"100%\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Obtaining the loan with the help of Florida SBDC at FIU, she said, \u201cwas so helpful. We are now licensed for 85 children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While getting the loan was Aurubin\u2019s primary goal, she said the Florida SBDC at FIU consultant has since become like a member of her family. The school employees have gotten to know the consultant, as did Aurubin\u2019s husband and kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey really care, they didn\u2019t just [help me get] the loan and that was it,\u201d Aurubin said, calling the consultant \u201can angel.\u201d \u201cShe comes here all the time to help me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aurubin said her business has not come easy. She has had to reach for the virtues of patience and perseverance to \u201cmake it at the end,\u201d but \u201cit took us a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She advises other entrepreneurs to do their homework and be as knowledgeable as possible.
