Three College of Business alumnae are among Fortune<\/em> magazine\u2019s 50 Most Powerful Latinas of 2017. They join three other FIU graduates and members of the FIU community on the ranking, which highlights Latinas\u2019 growing presence in corporate America.<\/p>\n

The list, compiled by\u00a0The Association of Latino Professionals for America, includes\u00a0female executives running Fortune<\/em> 500 companies or large private firms and entrepreneurs leading global initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese remarkable women used their FIU education to assume leadership roles in the corporate world,\u201d said Jose Aldrich, acting dean of the College of Business. \u201cWe are proud of their accomplishments, and of the ongoing relationships they have with our college and our university. They are important role models for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n

The four-criteria used in the ranking were: the size and importance of the woman\u2019s business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman\u2019s career\u2014r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and runway ahead\u2014and their social and cultural influence.<\/p>\n

Among these powerful women are the chair of the FIU Board of Trustees, four alumnae and two former advisory board members.<\/p>\n

Francis Hondal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

#15 \u2013 Francis Hondal \u201988, MBA \u201994<\/strong><\/p>\n

A first-generation Cuban American, Hondal serves as executive vice president for global consumer credit and loyalty solutions at MasterCard. She has 25 years of experience in consumer marketing, finance and management. Hondal is a member of\u00a0the College of Business Hall of Fame and is also on\u00a0the dean\u2019s council for the college. She earned a bachelor\u2019s in international business and finance in 1988 and a master\u2019s in business administration from FIU in 1994.<\/p>\n

Claudia Puig<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

#28 \u2013 Claudia Puig\u00a0\u201981<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chair of the FIU Board of Trustees<\/a>, Puig serves as senior vice president and general manager for local media in Miami at Univision Communications. She has more than 20 years of experience in Hispanic media, formerly serving as vice president and general manager of Spanish Broadcasting Systems. Puig\u00a0studied international business and marketing at FIU\u2019s College of Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n

#31 \u2013 Ileana Musa MBA \u201993<\/strong><\/p>\n

Musa serves as managing director for the global client segment and strategy executive at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she works with international financial advisors for high-net worth clients. Musa also chairs the\u00a0Association of Latino Professionals for America. She received a master\u2019s in business administration from FIU in 1993.<\/p>\n

#1 \u2013 Geisha Williams<\/strong><\/p>\n

Williams, who serves as president and CEO of PG&E Corporation, this year became the first Latina to lead a Fortune<\/em> 500 company. During her tenure at\u00a0PG&E, a power company,\u00a0she led\u00a0an initiative to provide nearly 30 percent of its\u00a0power from renewable energy sources. Williams is a former member\u00a0of the College of Engineering & Computing<\/a> advisory board.<\/p>\n

Soto is the senior vice president and global chief information security officer for Comcast. Her specializations include\u00a0integration of business and technology, technology risk management and more. A graduate of the College of Arts, Sciences & Education<\/a>, she received a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology in 1993.

Sastre is the president and COO of Signature Flight Support, where she leads acquisitions and integrations.
