Dear members of the university community,<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The promising news this morning is that the forecast cone continues to track north and east. However, Dorian is a catastrophic storm and we must remain vigilant because of past experience with hurricanes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

We must remember the lessons of\u00a0Hurricane Charley<\/a>, which \u201cwobbled\u201d and hit the Florida west coast 70 miles south of its expected landfall in August of 2004.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Please continue to pay close attention to updates from the\u00a0National Hurricane Center<\/a>\u00a0and the news media.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

FIU will close at noon on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019. Classes are canceled through the Labor Day weekend.<\/b>\u00a0<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

The university will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

In the coming days,\u00a0please look for official university communication through email and on social media channels regarding operations next week.<\/u><\/u><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Please make good use of this time to prepare and take responsibility for the safety of yourself and your family.\u00a0\u00a0<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
