{"id":34933,"date":"2020-10-08T09:21:36","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T13:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/?p=34933"},"modified":"2021-02-23T08:28:46","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T13:28:46","slug":"fiu-business-team-selected-as-finalists-at-national-black-mba-association-graduate-case-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/2020\/10\/fiu-business-team-selected-as-finalists-at-national-black-mba-association-graduate-case-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"FIU Business team selected as finalists at National Black MBA Association Graduate Case Competition."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A team of four MBA students representing FIU Business was chosen as one of seven finalists at the National Black MBA Association&#8217;s (NBMBAA) annual\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nbmbaa.org\/graduate-case-competitions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Case Competition<\/a>, placing among the top tier of 33 distinguished university teams at the virtual event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34937\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34937\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34937\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/fred-walumbwa.jpg\" alt=\"Fred Walumbwa\" width=\"120\" height=\"166\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34937\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fred Walumbwa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2020 competition required that students analyze a case by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and take on the role of an independent consultant for a dealership responding to the economic effects of COVID-19 and the implementation of digital sales.\u00a0Each team had to work under deadline to analyze the case, use their problem-solving skills to determine possible solutions, and present their recommendations to a panel of senior executives from Fortune 500 companies.\u00a0The teams that were selected as finalists had 20 minutes to present their recommendations followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34941\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34941\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34941\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/angel-burgos.jpg\" alt=\"Angel Burgos\" width=\"120\" height=\"166\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34941\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Angel Burgos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>FIU&#8217;s team consisted of three <a href=\"https:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/graduate\/online-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professional MBA Online<\/a>\u00a0students &#8212; Corwin McCammon, Sharon Scarborough, and Christie Pageler &#8212;\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/graduate\/international-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International MBA<\/a> student student Royer Baez.\u00a0Fred Walumbwa, professor of international business, served as their faculty advisor. In addition to participating in the team, McCammon won an award for best Q&amp;A responder.<\/p>\n<p>As they prepared for the competition, &#8220;I was really impressed by how quickly this team got down to business,\u201d said Walumbwa. \u201cThey had only two weeks to put everything together for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete with the best of the best in the nation.
