{"id":4105,"date":"2007-03-01T13:37:51","date_gmt":"2007-03-01T17:37:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/?p=4105"},"modified":"2017-11-13T15:11:45","modified_gmt":"2017-11-13T20:11:45","slug":"local-event-brings-international-perspective-to-business-prospects-in-venezuela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/2007\/03\/local-event-brings-international-perspective-to-business-prospects-in-venezuela\/","title":{"rendered":"Local event brings international perspective to business prospects in Venezuela."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the landslide election of Hugo Ch\u00e1vez in Venezuela in December, 2006, businesses operating there are grappling with the potential consequences.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Jerry Haar\" src=\"http:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/newsletters\/BusinessNetworks\/2007\/03\/images\/haar.jpg\" alt=\"Jerry Haar\" width=\"200\" height=\"178\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jerry Haar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More than 115 individuals got much-needed and much-appreciated insight from experts who spoke at the \u201cGlobal Intelligence Briefing,\u201d co-sponsored by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Regions Bank, and the College of Business Administration.<\/p>\n<p>The panel members addressed the question \u201cPost Election Venezuela: What Does the Future Bring for Commerce?\u201d <strong>Jerry Haar<\/strong>, professor, Department of Management and International Business, and associate director, Knight Ridder Center for Excellence in Management, moderated the panel. Haar also chairs the Chamber\u2019s Global Business Development committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA couple of people flew in from Venezuela,\u201d he said. \u201cWe opened with five minutes for an overview to set the stage on the economic situation. We then had a round of questions and cross-examination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Part of the challenge was to keep the discussion focused on commerce without adding a political dimension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur concern was not politics,\u201d Haar said. \u201cOur focus was on how people are responding on the ground. People were very satisfied with the content of the discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>International panel touches on wide range of interests and concerns. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>To give attendees a breadth of information, panelists included <strong>Mariano Oliva<\/strong>, franchise manager, Latin Am\u00e9rica\/Caribbean, Wendy\u2019s International; <strong>Gilberto Minionis<\/strong>, president, NetUno, a telecommunications firm in Caracas; <strong>John Price<\/strong>, president, InfoAmericas, Inc., a market research and business development company; <strong>Roberto Vainrub<\/strong>, president, ActiValores, a brokerage firm in Caracas; and <strong>C\u00e9sar Vasquez<\/strong>, business unit manager, medical division, Olympus Latin Am\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<p>The event took place on January 24, 2007.
