Jerry Haar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nMore than 115 individuals got much-needed and much-appreciated insight from experts who spoke at the \u201cGlobal Intelligence Briefing,\u201d co-sponsored by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Regions Bank, and the College of Business Administration.<\/p>\n
The panel members addressed the question \u201cPost Election Venezuela: What Does the Future Bring for Commerce?\u201d Jerry Haar<\/strong>, professor, Department of Management and International Business, and associate director, Knight Ridder Center for Excellence in Management, moderated the panel. Haar also chairs the Chamber\u2019s Global Business Development committee.<\/p>\n\u201cA couple of people flew in from Venezuela,\u201d he said. \u201cWe opened with five minutes for an overview to set the stage on the economic situation. We then had a round of questions and cross-examination.\u201d<\/p>\n
Part of the challenge was to keep the discussion focused on commerce without adding a political dimension.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur concern was not politics,\u201d Haar said. \u201cOur focus was on how people are responding on the ground. People were very satisfied with the content of the discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n
International panel touches on wide range of interests and concerns. <\/em><\/p>\nTo give attendees a breadth of information, panelists included Mariano Oliva<\/strong>, franchise manager, Latin Am\u00e9rica\/Caribbean, Wendy\u2019s International; Gilberto Minionis<\/strong>, president, NetUno, a telecommunications firm in Caracas; John Price<\/strong>, president, InfoAmericas, Inc., a market research and business development company; Roberto Vainrub<\/strong>, president, ActiValores, a brokerage firm in Caracas; and C\u00e9sar Vasquez<\/strong>, business unit manager, medical division, Olympus Latin Am\u00e9rica.<\/p>\nThe event took place on January 24, 2007.
