The bi-annual Torch Society Induction Ceremony\u2014a \u201cphilanthropic commencement\u201d\u2014recognizes the commitment of individuals and organizations whose philanthropic support exemplifies their generosity of spirit and social conscience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The most recent induction ceremony took place January 28, 2007, at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Twenty-seven individuals and organizations were recognized, nine with specific connections to the College of Business Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals and organizations inducted at the Gold Flame level\u2014those who have made commitments of $1 million or more to the university\u2014were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>R.  Kirk Landon<\/strong>\u2014to the construction of the new building complex, naming the R. Kirk Landon Undergraduate School of  Business<\/li>\n<li>Ocean Bank\u2014represented by <strong>Jose  Concepci\u00f3n<\/strong>\u2014to the construction of the new building complex, naming the Ocean Bank Auditorium, and to  scholarships<\/li>\n<li>Office Depot, Inc.\u2014represented by <strong>Chuck Rubin<\/strong>\u2014to the construction of the new building complex, naming  the Office   Depot Student   Center<\/li>\n<li>Oracle Corporation\u2014represented by <strong>Sara Coniff<\/strong>\u2014a gift in kind of software<\/li>\n<li>Regions Bank\u2014represented by <strong>Angel  Medina Jr.<\/strong> (BBA \u201992)\u2014to the construction of the new building complex,  naming the Regions Bank Classroom<em>,<\/em> and to scholarships<\/li>\n<li>John  S. and James L. Knight Foundation\u2014represented by <strong>Suzanna Valdes<\/strong>\u2014to establish the James L. Knight Eminent Scholars  Chair in Management Information Systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Silver Flame inductees\u2014whose commitments to the university  have exceeded $500,000\u2014were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Citigroup\u2014represented by <strong>Carlos  Davila<\/strong>\u2014to various college programs<\/li>\n<li>Miami Board of Realtors Educational Foundation\u2014represented by <strong>Patricia Dahne<\/strong> (BA \u201975)\u2014 to establish  an endowment supporting the Jerome Bain Real Estate Institute<\/li>\n<li>SunTrust Bank\u2014represented by <strong>Nicholas Bustle<\/strong> (MS \u201988)\u2014to establish the SunTrust Professorship and to various other programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe college is very fortunate to  have the support of so many individuals and corporations,\u201d said <strong>Joyce J. Elam<\/strong>, executive dean. \u201cTheir generosity allows us to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.
