Elam<\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Since 1999, when she launched an initial, pioneering project consisting of ten online courses in the College of Business Administration, Executive Dean <strong>Joyce J. Elam<\/strong>\u2019s name has been associated with online innovation and excellence. In early November, 2006, the university recognized her leadership by naming her Vice Provost for FIU Online.<\/p>\n<p>After launching the pilot program, \u201cshe created what became the standard for the delivery of top-notch, technology-enabled courses throughout the university,\u201d said <strong>Douglas Wartzok<\/strong>, the university\u2019s executive vice provost. \u201cSince that time, \u00a0Elam\u2019s visionary strategies have helped forge the unit currently known as FIU Online. In fall, 2006, more than 11,000 students are enrolled in 252 online or blended (part online\/part face-to-face) courses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an early advocate of online learning, it has been exciting for me to see the explosive increase in the number of students taking online and blended courses,\u201d Elam said. \u201cIn my new role as vice provost, I\u2019m looking forward to shaping and defining a university-wide strategy that will enable this institution and all of its academic units to compete and succeed in the arena of online education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the university continues  to move forward in its online efforts, she will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>oversee a staff of more than 70 professionals  who will help form and implement a university-wide strategy;<\/li>\n<li>coordinate and work closely with other key university units to create processes and procedures that will truly integrate online learning as a university norm; and<\/li>\n<li>be responsible for the continued growth and development of technology-enabled courses in the business school, the College of Arts &amp; Sciences, the Robert Stempel School of Public Health, the College of Architecture and The Arts, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the College of Education, among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joyce J.
