Elam, executive dean, introduced FIU President Mark Rosenberg, whom she had invited to meet the business school faculty.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since becoming president, Rosenberg has been describing his commitment to \u201cHit the Ground Running.\u201d The plan seeks to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>revitalize and expand the financial base<\/li>\n<li>achieve results-oriented student-centered academic excellence<\/li>\n<li>enhance the quality and impact of research and creative initiatives<\/li>\n<li>engage the community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6105\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6105\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/tn_FacultyInfoSession_Rosenberg.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6105\" title=\"tn_FacultyInfoSession_Rosenberg\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/tn_FacultyInfoSession_Rosenberg.JPG\" alt=\"Mark Rosenberg\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6105\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mark Rosenberg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was the last notion, focused on community involvement, that struck <strong>Irma Becerra-Fernandez<\/strong> (PhD \u201994), professor, Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems, and Pino Global  Entrepreneurship Center director and fellow, who was one of more than 40 members of the faculty to attend.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6106\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6106\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/tn_FacultyInfoSession_Group.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6106\" title=\"tn_FacultyInfoSession_Group\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/tn_FacultyInfoSession_Group.JPG\" alt=\"About 40 faculty members heard FIU President Mark Rosenberg speak about his vision for the university. \" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6106\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">About 40 faculty members heard FIU President Mark Rosenberg speak about his vision for the university. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhat I found most valuable in his remarks was to hear about the new emphasis on community, in particular in terms of defining our research priorities, such as disaster management and entrepreneurship,\u201d she said. \u201cI think this new strategy of building on our strengths will enable the university to synergize the efforts of the faculty across different disciplines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>Kenneth Henry<\/strong>, lecturer, School of Accounting, Rosenberg\u2019s long-term vision resonated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very useful for me to have his view of where FIU would likely be at the end of the next decade,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A reception followed the presentation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the invitation of Joyce J.
