Just-in-time.<\/p>\n<p>Call it what you will, a career fair held in Orlando with University of Central Florida (UCF) and University of Florida (UF) provided a great opportunity for 44 Florida International University (FIU) graduate students in the College of Business Administration to meet potential employers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7332\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7332\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/tn_InteriorOfFair.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7332\" title=\"tn_InteriorOfFair\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/tn_InteriorOfFair.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7332\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Twenty-four companies participated in the career fair co-hosted by FIU, University of Central Florida and University of Florida.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cStarting in 2005, we hosted the MBA\/MS \u2018Just in Time Hiring\u2019 event in conjunction with the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) within the business school,\u201d said <strong>Barry Shiflett<\/strong>, director, <a href=\"http:\/\/business.fiu.edu\/cms\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Career Management Services<\/a> (CMS). \u201cThis year, <strong>Elsie Florido<\/strong> (MSHRM \u201909), CMS associate director, and I proposed moving it to Orlando and co-hosting it with UCF and UF&#8212;both to accommodate more employers and to give our students the chance to see employers who do not recruit at FIU.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students were able to load a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 into the event r\u00e9sum\u00e9 book, sent to employers one week prior to the event, which was open to all FIU, UCF, and UF MBA\/MS students and alumni plus the members of the Orlando, Tampa and South Florida NSHMBA chapters. The FIU students traveled by bus, courtesy of CMS, from Miami to Orlando. Twenty-four companies participated including AirTran Airlines, American Airlines, CIA, DeVita, Kraft Foods Source 88, Star Casualty, State Farm, Regions Bank, Royal Caribbean and the U.S. Department of State.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7335\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7335\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/tn_Bus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7335\" title=\"tn_Bus\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/tn_Bus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7335\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FIU students networked during the bus trip to and from Orlando for the MBA\/MS \u2018Just in Time Hiring\u2019 event. Career Management Services provided the bus service.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>Student evaluations confirm the positive impact of the collaborative effort.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was lots of value to the experience,\u201d said <strong>Frank McGuinness<\/strong> (BBA \u201908), a student completing the International MBA program at FIU. \u201cFrom the start it sounded like a good way to bring together talent from Florida plus employers to meet many students. Even the bus trip was nice because I networked with students in our other graduate programs and have stayed in touch with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Shiflett, \u201cEmployer evaluations were good and they recommended we keep the event at UCF next year.
