Gloria Romero Roses<\/strong> (BBA \u201992) principal, Nexus_Consulting, LLC, was honored with a \u201cDistinguished Alumni Award\u201d at Florida International University\u2019s (FIU) ninth annual Torch Awards Gala.<\/p>\n \u201cThe alumni and faculty who are selected represent FIU\u2019s finest—they are our torchbearers,\u201d said FIU Alumni Association President Jose Perez de Corcho<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Among her many contributions to the business school, Romero Roses has chaired the College of Business Administration\u2019s Dean\u2019s Alumni Circle, now co-chairs the organization\u2019s mentoring program committee and serves on the Dean\u2019s Council.<\/p>\n The Torch Awards are held in memory of Senator Ernest R. Graham, the forward-thinking champion, who helped create FIU 44 years ago. The awards recognize recipients for the positive impact they make on their profession, the community and the university.<\/p>\n Alumnus receives two honors in one week.<\/em><\/p>\n Martin Cerda <\/strong>(BBA \u201986), founder and research director of Encuesta, Inc., received a \u201c2010 Great Mind Awards Certificate of Recognition\u201d from the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) on March 24, 2010. The award acknowledged his company\u2019s research expertise among the U.S. Hispanic population. The recognition was presented at the annual conference in New York City and goes to the individual (or team) who, over the past year, has created and proven the impact of innovative new methods based on inventiveness, analytics and\/or harnessing technology. Cerda was credited with launching the first dedicated U.S. Hispanic online research website in August 1999 and developing a science-based method of conducting online research among Latinos. Earlier that week, ARF recognized Encuesta, Inc., <\/em>with the David Ogilvy Award for its work on behalf of Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil and Bromley Communications (Silver Award in the Household Products Category).<\/p>\n \u201cEncuesta, Inc. and I are incredibly honored by these recognitions,\u201d Cerda said. “It is a privilege to be a part of the ARF that is so widely recognized for its proven commitment to supporting the Hispanic community.
