Jane credits her courses in the College of Business Administration at Florida International University (FIU) with building her business savvy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI minored in entrepreneurship, and the business courses have proven to be invaluable,\u201d this talented 25-year-old said. \u201cI have to find my own business, my own accounts. FIU helped give me the skills I need.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7415\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7415\" style=\"width: 199px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7415 size-full\" title=\"Katie Jane\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/tn_DSC_6796.jpg\" alt=\"Katie Jane\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katie Jane<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jane said learning business and professional communications is \u201ca must for every student,\u201d regardless of their field of study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlus the research skills I learned help me every day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School in Miami, Jane came to FIU as a scholarship student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy college years were incredible, including opportunities to travel to England, China and Paris,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>An FIU career fair during her junior year helped her land a part-time job with an outdoor advertising company. In 2008, The Heat Group hired Jane; her specialized marketing skills were needed to build a client base for the then-new 3,375-square-foot sign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incredible graphic display is seen annually by the arena\u2019s 1.4 million visitors, including Miami Heat fans, and by millions of commuters,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, say can you see . . . FIU\u2019s Katie Jane! <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jane wowed fans by singing <em>The Star Spangled Banner<\/em> at two Miami Heat games in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA member of the Heat organization encouraged me to audition, and I made it!\u201d she said. \u201cThe typical Miami Heat game has 15,000 to 20,000 people so I was nervous.
