Fricker Jr., a member of the Operations Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate School, logs articles on two measures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/business-thumb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7466 alignright\" title=\"business-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/biznews.fiu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/business-thumb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>The first is visibility, which he describes as \u201cthe number of times a university is listed as the primary academic affiliation in the INFORMS practice literature.\u201d The second&#8212;yield&#8212;measures \u201cthe equivalent number of INFORMS practice papers attributable to each university based on author primary academic affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the calculations, Florida International University (FIU) ranked 36<sup>th<\/sup> in the visibility category, sharing the spot with Boston University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Stanford University, University of Colorado at Denver, University of Dayton, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri\u2013St. Louis, University of Southern California and Villanova University.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains that the visibility \u201cscore is the total number of citations for authors who list that university as their primary affiliation in [the high quality] <em>Interfaces<\/em> and in the OR practice section of <em>Operations Research<\/em> (ORP), [a premier journal], plus half the number of un-refereed <em>Interfaces<\/em> columns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this recognition, which appeared in <em>Interfaces<\/em>, volume 39, number six, in the November-December 2009 issue, the college\u2019s strength in operations has been recognized in two rankings: the Chapman Graduate School was rated among the top 15 business schools in operations surveyed in The Princeton Review\u2019s second annual \u201cStudent Opinion Honors for Business Schools,\u201d and in 2009, an online <em>BusinessWeek<\/em> ranking of specialties, placed the college 9th in operations management.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a recent article in Interfaces, the College of Business Administration has an outstanding record in practical applications of operations research and finds itself in impressive company.
