Members of FIU\u2019s collegiate chapter of AMA captured a number of awards\u2014including \u201cSuperior Chapter\u201d\u2014at the 32nd American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference held recently in New Orleans, Louisiana.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nMore than 1,300 attendees representing more than 300 AMA collegiate chapters participated in the AMA conference. The event provides an intensive marketing experience encompassing professional guest speakers, a career fair and networking opportunities. Eighteen students from Florida International University (FIU) participated\u2014and returned with an impressive number of awards.<\/p>\n
FIU now ranks second within the AMA collegiate division, having been listed among the top eight participating colleges for eight consecutive years.<\/p>\n
\u201cI continue to be amazed at the high caliber of work our students bring to the competition, given all the important things that fill their schedules, such as excelling in their classes and working full-time jobs,\u201d said Tim Dugan Birrittella<\/strong>, Department of Marketing lecturer and AMA faculty advisor. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to work with such wonderful students.\u201d<\/p>\nDrum roll please: FIU AMA chapter president named \u201cStudent Marketer of the Year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nFor the first time, this year\u2019s AMA Collegiate Conference featured a competition for \u201cStudent Marketer of the Year.\u201d A panel of student peers awarded this honor to Emory Pinto <\/strong>(BBA \u201910), president of the college\u2019s AMA chapter, based on his service to the AMA along with demonstrated leadership, commitment to the community and academic excellence.<\/p>\n\u201cWe are extremely proud of Emory,\u201d Birrittella said. \u201cThe competition for this recognition was keen, including strong challenges from candidates from other leading business colleges, including the Wharton Business School.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pinto is thrilled to receive the recognition.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the fact that I was selected by my peers is the most exciting part,\u201d he said. \u201cI am also happy that FIU took this one. We\u2019re bringing the college up to a whole new playing field, winning among top competitors and drawing more attention to our excellent business and marketing programs.\u201d<\/p>\n
