Even before officially beginning his three-year tenure as editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), one of the leading publications in its field, John Cantwell came to the College of Business Administration at Florida International University (FIU) to share his vision for the publication with more than 25 faculty members and doctoral students. JIBS is the official publication of the Academy of International Business (AIB).

“International business is a strategic focus for us,” said Sumit Kundu, professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Professor, Department of Management and International Business, who invited Cantwell, having known him since his own days as a doctoral student at Rutgers, where Cantwell currently is a professor of management and global business “Because international business is an interdisciplinary field, I wanted colleagues in the business school to hear his thoughts about the importance of interdisciplinary research.”

Kundu felt the event was helpful for the faculty members undertaking cross disciplinary research and for doctoral students “to give them a good understanding of what it takes to get published in a premier journal such as JIBS, whose acceptance rate is five percent.”

Cantwell assumes his new role on July 1, 2010.

College’s strong presence in AIB grows.

Mary Ann Von Glinow, professor and Knight Ridder Eminent Scholar Chair in International Management, is the incoming AIB president and will begin her term at the organization’s annual meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2010. She also is an AIB fellow, as are Joyce J. Elam, executive dean, who was named International Dean of the Year in 2007, and Jose de la Torre, clinical professor and J.K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in Strategy. In addition, Kundu will serve as a track chair in Rio, as he has at two previous AIB annual meetings in Sweden and Milan.
