Scholarship recipients in the International MBA (IMBA) program at Florida International University (FIU), gain a two-fold benefit: the awards recognize their potential while easing the way for them financially as they complete the Chapman Graduate School’s 12-month full-time master’s program.
For the 2009-2010 academic year, 17 IMBA students received financial support. Fifteen of them celebrated over lunch with each other, College of Business Administration administrators, including Executive Dean Joyce J. Elam, who welcomed the group; faculty; program staff; family; and friends.
“All the awards were merit-based,” said Dana Farrow, faculty director of the IMBA program, noting that approximately 20 percent of the IMBA class received scholarships. “The number of students to have such impressive admissions credentials is an indication of the high-quality individuals our IMBA program attracts.”
In addition to publicly acknowledging the recipients, the luncheon provided a chance to thank the donors, one of which, Mercantil Commercebank, was represented by Magdelana Mata, senior vice president human resources manager. Mercantil Commercebank and Espirito Santo Bank made generous donations to the college’s Growth and Excellence Fund. The college matches donations.
“We are very grateful to our donors and to the community for their support of our graduate programs,” Farrow said. “We look forward to being able to continue to attract exceptional graduate students by offering them scholarships that honor their achievements and promise.”
According to Annabelle Rojas (MBA ’98, BBA ’87), assistant dean, Department of Advancement, Alumni and Corporate Relations, the support from Mercantil Commercebank and Espirito Santo Bank “enables us to provide opportunities to students who have demonstrated their ability to accomplish great things.”
