In its most recent rankings of business schools for Hispanics, Hispanic Business ranked the College of Business Administration at Florida International University (FIU) eighth in the country for the second consecutive year. The annual listing looks at the percentage of Hispanic student enrollment, the percentage of Hispanic faculty and what it calls “progressive programs aimed at increasing enrollment of Hispanic students.”

At FIU, diversity exists even within the Hispanic population.

“We are extremely pleased to be among the institutions in Hispanic Business’s top ten again,” said Joyce J. Elam, executive dean of the business school, noting that in 2009 through 2010, the college’s Hispanic-American undergraduate enrollment was 68 percent and its graduate enrollment was 51 percent. “Not only is FIU number one in the country in granting bachelor’s and master’s degrees to Hispanics according to Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, but also our Hispanic students have cultural roots from all across Central America, the Caribbean, South America and Europe—a diversity that reflects Miami’s unique position as ‘the crossroads of The Americas.’”

The other top ten business schools on the 2010 list were UT El Paso, New York University, UT Austin, University of Miami, UT San Antonio, University of New Mexico, Stanford University, Duke University and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

In addition to its presence in Hispanic Business’s top ten, the business school continues to be ranked among the top international business schools—particularly for Latino students—in Hispanic Trends, AméricaEconomía and Latin Trade magazines.

“FIU Business has much to be proud of as we help our promising Hispanic students prepare for their careers and support our faculty whose research is contributing to a broader understanding of the Hispanic and Hispanic-American cultures” Elam said. “This ranking is further evidence of the success of our efforts.”
