About 450 of the newly admitted students in the Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Graduate School of Business at Florida International University (FIU) got a taste of the new during one of the fall orientation events: meeting fellow students, administrators, faculty members and program staff while getting acquainted with the facilities at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus where many will be spending much of their time over the coming months.
On the other hand, program staff, administrators and faculty returned to the familiar: the pleasant task of welcoming the new students following a well-honed format designed to maximize the impact of the evening.
“We had a financial aid presentation, individual breakout sessions where the students got to meet their classmates, and welcoming remarks from Jerry Haar, associate dean for international affairs and projects, professor, Department of Management and International Business; and Kevin O’Shea, interim dean of FIU’s graduate school,” said Diana Medina, assistant director, Evening and Professional MBA programs. “At a reception, the students got to mingle with those from all the programs.”
The College of Business Administration offers a total of fourteen master’s-level programs, including the fully online Corporate MBA. Programs take place at the FIU Pines Center in Broward County and the Downtown Center as well as at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
Numbers validate that programs meet student needs.
“With more than 700 students starting programs in the Chapman Graduate School this fall, we have achieved another record enrollment,” said Luis Casas, the business school’s director of marketing, communications and recruiting. “We are happy to see that the increased awareness and prestige of our programs keeps attracting students seeking to advance in their careers—including 33 in our new Healthcare MBA and 127 in our new online Corporate MBA.”
Sarah Perez, executive director, Executive and Professional MBAs, made introductions and acknowledgements, especially to the 45 members of the FIU Business staff who worked on the event and the many faculty members who attended.
