Honors are not new for Kannan Raghunandan, professor and Ryder Eminent Scholar Chair in Business Leadership in the School of Accounting in the College of Business Administration at Florida International University. According to a study conducted by professors at Brigham Young University (BYU), Raghunandan ranked as the top auditing researcher in the world over the past six years, based on publications in the most important accounting journals. His output also helped the school earn the top spot in the area of archival audit research during the past six years in another BYU study.

Recently, he added another significant recognition to his impressive list of achievements: he was appointed to a team that is helping the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB)—established by the U. S. Congress—set standards related to the preparation and issuing of audit reports by registered public accounting firms.

PCAOB turns to Raghunandan for multiple contributions.

“The PCAOB asked the American Accounting Association (AAA) to assist with the setting of auditing standards by offering teams of researchers to provide guidance to the board,” he said. “Along with colleagues from Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States, I was asked by the AAA to serve on the team dealing with the standards related to Going Concern reporting.”

Additionally, the PCAOB has asked Raghunandan to make a presentation to its staff and advisory groups about recent research related to audit reporting. He will be presenting on behalf of the team, which includes five other researchers, during a meeting of the PCAOB’s Advisory Group in Washington, DC, on November 10, 2011.

“This prestigious appointment emphasizes the usefulness of Raghunandan’s research to the profession,” said Ruth Ann McEwen, director, School of Accounting. “It is significant for him and helps demonstrate the strength and reputation of our faculty.”
