OK. The clock is ticking. You’ve got four minutes to tell a fellow Florida International University (FIU) alumnus about your professional background, business goals and personal interests. Go for it!
It’s a fast-and-furious way to connect that really clicked for the more than 50 alumni who attended the recent speed-networking event hosted jointly by the College of Business Administration’s Business Alumni Chapter (BAC) and FIU’s College of Law.
“Our goal was to bring alumni together to build business contacts, foster professional friendships and create a sense of community,” said Sandra L. Marenco (BBA ’09), Business Alumni Chapter president.
The event was held at the Cavas Wine Room in Mary Brickell Village in downtown Miami. Omar Cordero (BBA ’05), BAC board member, moderated the 90-minute round of lively, fast-paced networking.
Success of first speed-networking evening signals more are in store.
According to Marenco, everyone there had the opportunity to meet and mingle with at least 25 or more people.
Feedback from the attendees was extremely positive. The comment cards filled out at the end of the evening revealed that the participants enjoyed the location and approved of the whole speed-networking concept.
“Many loved having the opportunity to meet new people one-on-one,” said Michelle Joubert (MBA ’10), assistant director, advancement, alumni and corporate relations.
Judging from the success of this first speed-networking evening, Joubert is confident that another one will soon be scheduled.
Marenco noted that activities like this provide yet another excellent way to interact with fellow alumni.
“I encourage alumni who aren’t already joining in to consider participating in this or other alumni events,” she said. “I can’t think of a better way to add more value to your degree, give back to your school and meet interesting new people along the way.”
