Karlene C. Cousins, associate professor, moderated the panel at the Distinguished Lunch and Learn Series for students in the Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MSMIS) program. The topic was “Legal Issues Facing the Technology Entrepreneur.” Law School faculty and local intellectual property attorneys participated. More than 60 students and MSMIS alumni attended the event, which took place August 6, 2011.

“Minimum quality standard regulation under imperfect quality observability,” a co-authored paper by Min Chen, clinical assistant professor, has been accepted for publication in Journal of Regulatory Economics, a bimonthly peer-reviewed economic journal that serves as a high-quality forum for the analysis of regulatory theories and institutions by developing the rigorous economics foundations of regulation.
William G. Hardin III, director, Jerome Bain Real Estate Institute; professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was quoted in “Here comes the next wave of condos,” an article in The Miami Herald on October 31, 2011. He also spoke at the September 22, 2011 chapter meeting of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, in Fort Lauderdale. The event was covered in the October 7th issue of the Daily Business Review.
Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was quoted in an article titled “Investors show interest in foreclosure plan” on October 26th in Reuters. A number of public broadcasting stations picked up the story, as did Fox Business. A second Reuters article quoting Johnson and titled “Analysis: Mortgage probe may open new path for housing relief” appeared on October 28th. Also, he was interviewed and fielded phone calls for approximately half an hour on the Home Mortgage Law Show on October 29th on the topics of foreclosure and the buy versus rent decision in Southeast Florida. The show airs each Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on 610AM and 100.3FM.

Ed Glab, clinical professor, chaired a panel on the economics of nuclear power at “Nuclear Power Technology: The Next Generation,” an FIU teach-in on October 20th. He also moderated and made a brief presentation on the panel “Brazilian Showcase,” at the International Strategic Latin American Oil and Gas Conference held at the Mandarin Hotel in Miami, October 25-27, 2011. The panel focused on current energy developments in Brazil and the outlook for the future.
An article titled “What’s driving Miami’s entrepreneurial renaissance,” by Jerry Haar, associate dean for international affairs and projects, professor and research fellow, appeared in the “My View” column of The Miami Herald on October 31, 2011. In addition, he was quoted in article titled “Trade logistics firms vital for South Florida’s international commerce,” which appeared in The Miami Herald on October 17, 2011.
The Journal of Business Ethics selected 50 articles to publish in its 30th anniversary commemorative issue including one by Karl Galen Kroeck, chair and professor. The issue, which will be published in early 2012, drew from the almost 5,000 articles the journal has published.
William Newburry, associate professor and SunTrust Bank Professor, presented “Analysis of Reputational Risk in Latin America” at the Conferencia Latinoamerica de Reputacion Corporativa on October 14, 2011 in Cartagena, Colombia.
