Lin Li (MIB ’11) had already been accepted for graduate work at Monash University in Australia when she heard about a partnership between Florida International University (FIU) and Qingdao University, where she had earned two bachelor’s degrees.
“The United States is one of the world’s most important economic centers and Miami is a gateway city to the United States and South America,” she said. “The superior quality of U.S. education is well known as are the high ratings of FIU’s College of Business Administration. I knew studying at FIU would increase my horizons—and it did.”
Lin is among the many students, including a large group from China, who are in FIU’s innovative Dual Degree Program, which offers options for the international scholar. Lin began her graduate work at Qingdao University and then completed her Master of International Business (MIB) in FIU’s Chapman Graduate School.
“Being educated in two countries gives me enormous perspective,” she said.
Company protects one of the earth’s most valuable resources.
Li is now hard at work in Miami, establishing a new company, Best Water Group USA, LLC, with her business partner, Chunwei Cui who serves as chairman of the board of Qingdao Seacon Water Service Technology Co., Ltd.
“Our business will help in water purification and desalination of seawater,” Li said. “The products we will sell are ultrafiltration membrane modules and filter elements. We hope to bring products from China to the United States and South America and also to establish a manufacturing facility in the Miami area.”
Li added that the company’s goal is to create new value with an innovative concept.
“Water pollution is a more serious problem in recent years, especially in developing countries,” she said. “Our products will protect water and limit the discharge of pollution into the environment.”
Li credits her education from FIU’s business school with preparing her well.
“FIU’s teaching not only explains theories but also lets students work with real cases to improve our problem-solving capabilities,” she said. “I learned how to develop a master plan, how to identify and solve problems and many other valuable skills.”
