Monica Chiarini Tremblay, assistant professor, received a grant, along with Our Kids of Miami Dade and Monroe, from the Health Foundation of South Florida, for a project titled “Evaluation of outcomes through the use of electronic medical passports at Our Kids.” She was appointed an area editor for the interdisciplinary journal Health Systems for the areas of decision support systems, data mining & data analytics in healthcare; was appointed as an associate editor for papers in the healthcare track at the European Conference on Information Systems, which will take place June 10-13, 2012 at ESADE in Barcelona, Spain; and had a mini-track proposal, entitled “Telemedicine: Advances, Opportunities and Challenges for Information Systems,” accepted at the Americas Conference on Information Systems to be held in Seattle, WA August 9-12, 2012.

Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was quoted extensively in the press in December 2011. Among the citations were “The Future of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac” in U.S.News and World Report on December 14th; twice in the Palm Beach Post: “After long lull, foreclosure filings ramp up” on December 15th and “Flippers’ role in housing flop larger than thought” on December 25th; and “Which Is More Profitable: Buying or Renting?” in the Main Street Newsletter on December 27th.

Jerry Haar, associate dean for international affairs and projects, professor and research fellow, authored two of the five most popular columns published in Latin Business Chronicle in 2011: “Latin America Embraces Mobile Money” and “Latin America: The Quest for Talent,” the latter written with Maria Pradilla, coordinator, international projects. He and Gabriel Rovayo, dean, IDE Business School in Ecuador, signed a dual degree agreement, a photo of which appeared in Vistazo magazine.
Nathan Hiller, assistant professor, was quoted in an article titled “Distinguishing Narcissism from Self-Confidence,” which appeared in Human Resource Executive Online on December 14th.
“Managing cross-cultural differences: testing human resource models in Latin America,” an article by Juan I. Sanchez, professor and Byron Harless Eminent Scholar Chair in Management, has been accepted for publication in Journal of Business Research. He summarized his experience conducting large-scale, cross-national research in a chapter titled “Administrative, Measurement and Sampling Issues in Large-Scale Cross-National Research: UN or NATO Approach?” in Conducting Multinational Research Projects in Organizational Psychology: Challenges and Opportunities. His chapter “Evaluating work analysis in the 21st Century” will be published in The Handbook of Work Analysis: Methods, Systems, Applications and Science of Work Measurement in Organizations. Along with William Newburry, associate professor and SunTrust Bank Professor, he presented a paper titled “Employer attractiveness in emerging markets: is foreignness a liability in the war for talent?” at the 7th International Conference of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, in Lima, Peru, on December 6, 2011. December 12-13, 2011, he attended a meeting of the Occupational Information Advisory Panel at the Social Security Administration (SSA) in Baltimore, MD, where he and other nationally recognized job analysis experts provided their advice to the SSA on the new methodology to be employed in the disability determination process.
