Downtown on Brickell is the place to be. That’s the word from an incoming wave of businesses, restaurants and residents—and now, students at Florida International University (FIU).
FIU’s Downtown on Brickell programs proved so popular that after less than a year, the university’s space will double. The added square footage will accommodate more students and graduate programs offered by the College of Business Administration.
A new leasing agreement adds 28,000 square feet at 1101 Brickell Ave. Three floors, including two multi-purpose classrooms and a reception area, will be added to FIU’s existing 32,000 square feet of classrooms, offices, and dining space. The expanded areas will open for use in the fall of 2012. Signage with FIU’s name and logo will appear on the building high above Brickell Ave.
“Students have quickly given a strong positive reaction to our Brickell location,” Executive Dean Joyce J. Elam said. “As we continue our mission as a resource for the downtown community, the added space will allow us to build our role as a focal point for professionals and executives.”
Expanded facility brings new graduate business programs to Brickell.
The new space will house the college’s redesigned Executive MBA (EMBA) program, an immersive educational experience designed to meet the needs of experienced managers. A new program, the Master of Science in Health Information and Management Systems (MSHIMS), will also have its start at the Brickell center this fall.
In September 2011, FIU opened FIU Downtown on Brickell, built to FIU’s specifications. The building, owned by Florida East Coast Realty, was chosen after an exhaustive search to provide a suitably central location with facilities capable of serving FIU’s rapidly expanding student population.
Other programs at the site are the Professional MBA (PMBA), Master of Science in Management Information Systems, (MSMIS), Master of Science in International Real Estate (MSIRE), Master of Science in Finance (MSF) and the Healthcare MBA (HCMBA). FIU’s Master of Public Administration and Master of Arts in Global Governance and the College of Arts & Sciences’ Metropolitan Center also are housed at Brickell.
