On November 13, 2012, Nancy Borkowski, clinical associate professor, presented the webinar “Teaching Change Management: A Mini-Case Simulation Approach” for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. On November 15th, she served as the panel moderator for “Developing High Performance Teams,” sponsored by South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum and hosted by University of Miami Hospital.
Gloria Deckard, associate professor, and Monica Chiarini Tremblay, assistant professor, delivered a podium presentation at the American Medical Informatics Association in Chicago, Illinois. It was titled “Evaluating the Implementation of a Statewide HIE: Approach, Challenges and Lessons Learned.” Acceptance rate for presentations at the conference, which took place November 3-7, 2012, was 19 percent. In addition, Tremblay presented “Bridging Health Disparities in the Foster Care Population through the Use of a Medical Passport: Lessons Learned” at the Patient Empowerment Conference, which took place November 11-12, 2012 in Pasadena, California. She also served as a steering committee member for the conference.

Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Tibor and Sheila Hollo Research Fellow, was quoted in “Apartments slated for renovation, affordable rents,” in the Sun Sentinel on November 13, 2012.
Edward R. Lawrence, associate professor, and Aran J. Prakash, professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, along with Ann Marie Hibbert (PhD ’08, MBA ’03), have four papers, which grew out of her dissertation, in press or published, one in a high quality journal and three in premier journals: “Does knowledge of finance mitigate the gender differences in financial risk-aversion,” Global Finance Journal, in press at this high-quality journal; and the three premier publications: “Role of financial education in management of retirement savings,” Journal of Behavioral Finance, in press; “Do finance professors invest like everyone else?,” published in Financial Analyst Journal; and “Can diversification be learned?,” published in Journal of Behavioral Finance.
On November 9, 2012, Alex Saldarriaga, adjunct professor, served as a panel moderator and guest speaker on the topic of risk management at the Private Banking Latin America 2012 Conference. His presentation covered how highly regarded financial firms such as MF Global and JP Morgan unsuccessfully hedged or speculated on the Eurozone Crisis, lessons learned and practices that can be implemented to avoid the losses they incurred.
John Zdanowicz, professor, met with four visitors from Kazakhstan, participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program. Hosted by the Miami Council for International Visitors in mid-October, the U. S. Department of State-sponsored “International Cooperation in Asset Forfeiture” focused on how to combat financial crimes.

Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, along with the Center for Leadership (CFL) hosted Manfred Kets de Vries, the foremost authority in the world at the intersection of leadership and psychology, on November 16, 2012, for a day of leadership learning. Kets de Vries, who holds the Raoul de Vitry d’Avaucourt Chair of Leadership Development at INSEAD and is the founder of INSEAD’s Global Leadership Center, spoke on the topic “The Leadership Challenge: A Cultural Odyssey” to more than 100 community leaders and FIU faculty, staff and alumni.
Juan Pujol, adjunct professor, presented a new approach to business ethics compliance at the annual International Management Consultant Conference, held in October 2012, in Orlando, Florida.

Kimberly Taylor, associate professor and Macy’s Retailing Chair, was quoted in “Black Friday is creeping into Thanksgiving evening,” which appeared in The Miami Herald on November 20, 2012.
