School of Accounting
C Delano Gray, instructor, completed his first semester as Faculty Senate chair and member of the Board of Trustees. He is the first African American to hold the post and the first faculty member to be chair of the Senate from the School of Accounting. He presided as the grand marshal for the seven Fall Commencement ceremonies. In October, he made three presentations to practicing CPAs through the college’s Center for Accounting, Auditing and Tax Studies (CAATS) on topics such as internal control and fraud examination, and professional ethics. He also made a presentation to a similar group sponsored by Alpha Kappa Psi.
Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems
Monica Chiarini Tremblay, assistant professor, attended the 22nd Annual Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS), held in Orlando, Florida, December 15-16, 2012, a highly competitive event held prior to the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). She presented her research prototype “A Knowledge Management System to Track the Evaluation of the Implementation of a Statewide Health Information Exchange,” which was one of four nominees for the Best Research Prototype award. Doctoral student Arturo Castellanos was a co-author, major contributor and presenter. Gloria Deckard, associate professor, was also a contributor.
Department of Finance and Real Estate
Deanne Butchey, senior lecturer, and Rigoberto Fernandez, associate director of the college’s Technology Center, presented “Serving Three Masters: Faculty, Administrators and Accreditors” at AACSB’s 2012 Associate Deans Conference on November 13, 2012 in Houston, Texas. The session focused on the use of technology to effectively and efficiently manage a college of business. More than 50 participants attended and rated the presentation a 3.5 on a four-point scale.
Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Tibor and Sheila Hollo Research Fellow, was quoted in “Principal reductions may be paid for by Hardest Hit Fund,” which appeared in the Palm Beach Post on December 19, 2012.
Department of Management and International Business
Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, was honored as Educator of the Year by the National Association of Cuban-American Educators on December 8, 2012 in Miami. Florida. The award recognized his exceptional leadership, dedication and transformational accomplishments in the area of education.
