The PhD Pipeline Program encourages minority undergraduates to consider pursuing a doctorate in business. On January 24, 2013, the program’s founder, Duke University business school professor Lucy J. Reuben, met with David R. Klock, dean of the College of Business at Florida International University (FIU), to thank him and the college for their support.
She also spoke at an information workshop titled “Conquering the GMAT,” attended by 17 students on campus, along with 22 students who participated online.
Samuel Roman, a student in the Master of Accounting (MACC) program offered in the School of Accounting, explained the dos and don’ts of preparing for the test; Brandon Garland, coordinator, Finance and Administration, and Kristy Alvarez, Kaplan Campus Manager for FIU and the University of Miami, provided information about the examination; and graduate assistant Stephanie Paredes (BACC ’12, BBA ’10) addressed questions from the online attendees.
Antoinette Smith, associate professor, School of Accounting, leads the PhD Pipeline effort at FIU.
