School of Accounting

Brent Lao, assistant professor, presented an academic study on January 11, 2014 at the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section conference in Houston, Texas, sponsored by the American Accounting Association.

Jonathan Milian, assistant professor, presented his research paper “Overreacting to a History of Underreaction?” at the annual meeting of the American Finance Association on January 5, 2014 in Philadelphia.

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Monica Chiarini Tremblay, associate professor, served as prototype demo chair for the 23rd Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS) and as session chair for the healthcare track at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Both events were held in Milan, Italy in December, 2013.

Department of Management and International Business

An op-ed column titled “U.S. immigration policy undermines our competitiveness” by Jerry Haar, professor, appeared in the Miami Herald on January 7, 2014.

Harr was also quoted in a BloombergBusinessweek article “Venezuela Post-Chávez: Hustlers’ Paradise” by Roben Farzad on January 16, 2014.

Department of Marketing

Assistant Professor Peter Magnusson’s paper “A Process-Based Explanation of the Psychic Distance Paradox: Evidence from Global Virtual Teams” has been accepted for publication in Management International Review.

Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

Bill Hardin, director, was featured in a Miami Herald article on January 6, 2014 entitled “Q&A: FIU’s William G. Hardin speaks about South Florida real estate” by Martha Brannigan. Hardin was also recently recognized for his service as an external reviewer for Real Estate Economics, academic real estate’s top journal. He also served as a panelist at the FIU REAAC (Real Estate Alumni Affinity Council) 2014 Outlook Conference on January 30, 2013. More than 180 attended the event.

Suzanne Hollander, visiting instructor, received the 2014 Thelma Gibson Award of Excellence in recognition of her contribution of real estate education to the community. The award is given by the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Miami-Dade County at the Biltmore Hotel on January 23, 2014.
