A Florida International University (FIU) graduate’s innovative pair of eyeglasses that reads text to the vision-impaired will be featured at eMerge Americas Techweek, May 5-6. FIU has partnered with the Technology Foundation of the Americas to host the FIU Pavilion at eMerge, a conference that brings together civic leaders, industry titans, entrepreneurs and global thought leaders with the purpose of establishing a technology hub for the Americas.

FIU community members are eligible for discounted registration via the eMerge Americas Techweek website using the code FIUEMERGE. The conference is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors to come together to develop and fund innovative projects and discuss the role of education in a tech-driven economy.

EyeTalker is an invention that allows people with severe vision impairment to hear the text in books, newspapers, magazines, menus, product packages, signs, and other items, in multiple languages. In addition, FIU College of Business alumni Frankie Coletto, founder and CEO of PassTheNotes and Andrés Domínguez, co-founder and managing director of Natural Sins, as well as FIU Entrepreneurship Center Chairman Mike Tomás, president and CEO of Bioheart, Inc., will showcase their innovative startups at the conference, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg together with J.P. Morgan’s head of U.S. Southeast Private Bank, Phil Conway, and Florida State Rep. Erik Fresen, will host a discussion about the use of innovation and technology in education reform at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6 at the center.

Also on hand at the conference will be representatives of the College of Business’ Florida Small Business Development Center at FIU, who will be providing no-cost consulting to entrepreneurs and businesses.
