Three faculty members have been selected to serve as judges for the 2015 Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge. They are Karlene C. Cousins, associate professor of Decision Science and Information Systems; Seema Pissaris, professor, Management and International Business; and Kimberly Taylor, associate professor, Department of Marketing.
Department of Decision Science and Information Systems
Karlene C. Cousins, associate professor, was an invited speaker on Strategies for Managing Worklife Balance for the Mobile Workforce at the International Economic Development Council’s Leadership Forum, January 25-27. She was also selected as an FIU STEM Transformation Institute Founding Faculty Fellow.
Department of Finance
Arun Prakash, professor, coauthored two books: Financial, Commercial and Mortgage Mathematics and their Application (Praeger Publications) and The Undaunted (Aventine Press). The Undaunted is a novel he coauthored with a former classmate Vikramaditya Prasad, a retired Justice of High Court of the State of Jharkhand, India. Also, Prakash co-authored “Effect of Bank Monitoring on Earnings Management of the Borrowing Firm: An Empirical Investigation,” which has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Financial Research. In addition, a three-part series of articles that he co-authored – “With One Shot, Which Bullet Would You Use? Market versus Accounting Data in Bankruptcy Prediction Part II” — appeared in 2014 in three consecutive issues of the International Journal of Finance.

Jerry Haar, professor, wrote an op-ed column entitled “President’s Move Beams Ray of Hope to Cuba’s Entrepreneurs” that appeared in Miami Today on January 28, 2015.

Kimberly Taylor, associate professor, was quoted in Johhny Diaz’s article “Burdines, WCIX and other iconic S. Florida brands remembered online” which appeared in the Sun Sentinel on January 26, 2015.
