The upcoming Human Resources Career Development Day was originally planned for 110 attendees, but strong early registration has necessitated opening up the event to 170 people.

The event, to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Florida International University (FIU), has been expanded to nine different seminars. Seasoned human resources professionals will address a wide variety of topics, including compensation and career paths, using social media for career searches, engaging the HR professional community, HR opportunities in hospitality and managing in the non-profit world.

“HR students know a good idea when they hear about it,” said Marc Weinstein, professor in the Department of Management & International Business at the College of Business. “This event, presented by Greater Miami Society for Human Resource Management (GMSHRM), is a terrific opportunity for any current HR student or recent grad.”

Chelsea Nealey, president of FIU SHRM, the local student chapter, will be among the 25 volunteers helping at the event. She’s glad that volunteers can attend sessions, too.

“When you plan to enter a new field, you want to learn everything you can. To be able to hear from professionals in the field is a great opportunity,” said Nealey, a senior majoring in HR. “Plus, we’ll all have a chance to network.”

The day will also offer opportunities for personal coaching by HR professionals.

“This is the second annual HR Career Development Day and we are pleased to welcome GMSHRM to campus once again,” Weinstein said.

Space is limited; online registration is available.

The event, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be presented in FIU’s College of Business Complex on the Modesto Maidique campus. Tickets are $15 which covers the entire day, including lunch and refreshments. The event is sponsored by FIU Online.
