Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics

An article co-authored by Debra VanderMeer, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, has been selected by IGI Global for a Seventh Annual Excellence in Research Journal Award, for articles from the 2014 volume year. VanderMeerā€™s article “Enabling Resource Access Visibility for Automated Enterprise Services” originally was featured in Journal of Database Management, Volume 25, Issue 2.

Department of Management and International Business

Jerry Harr, professor, wrote an op-ed piece for the Miami Herald entitled ā€œRadical Islamā€™s Latin American connectionā€ which appeared in the November 23, 2015, edition of The Miami Herald.

Seema Pissaris, professor, was a panelist at the Eisenhower Fellowship Women’s Leadership Forum held November 17-19, 2015, in Miami, Florida. Several of Pissarisā€™ students attended.

Juan I. Sanchez, professor and Knight-Ridder Byron Harless Eminent Chair in Management, has been reappointed to a new three-year term, his second, as a Public Member of the Board of Examiners of The Foreign Civil Service. In a letter from U.S. Undersecretary of State Patrick Kennedy, Sanchezā€™s background and experience are noted as valuable. His second term begins December 1, 2015.

Also, Sanchez has been asked to deliver a two-day workshop on recent trends in human resource management for Deloitte’s High Potential program to be held February 26 and 27 in Torrelodones, Madrid, Spain. This program targets senior Deloitte consultants identified as having high management potential.

Department of Marketing

Anthony D. Miyazaki, chair and professor, moderated a panel discussion on Social Media Marketing for Digital Day Miami held in downtown Miami, Florida, on November 4, 2015. Ā Participants included Casey Munck from Amadeus, Christian Pretelt from Facebook, Stephanie Scotto de Restrepo from MasterCard and Juan Damia of Intellignos.

Also, Miyazaki was co-chair and moderator for the Big Data and Marketing Innovation Summit held in Miami Beach, Florida, on November 6, 2015. Speakers for the day wereĀ marketing and analytics leadersĀ from Facebook, Burger King, FIU, Autonation, Razorfish, Wyndham, Chipotle and Enjoy Life Foods.

A commentary by Carlos M. Parra, professor, was featured in an article entitled ā€œWill Latin American Currencies Fall Further in 2016?ā€ which appeared in Latin American Advisor on November 16, 2015.
