Antoinette Smith, associate professor, is the author of “Insider Secrets to College Classroom Success,” a guide to best practices that will help make college students more successful in the classroom. She was recognized at the FIU Book Authors Recognition Reception.
David W. Barman, instructor, served as a guest judge at the Florida High School Mock Trial Competition, Miami-Dade County round, at the James L Knight Center in Miami on February 11, 2016.

Reflections from Marcos A. Kerbel, participating adjunct professor, and his wife, Helen, are included in It Happened in Miami, The Magic City-An Oral History, a book co-authored by two Dartmouth College professors, Myrna Katz Frommer and Harvey Frommer. The book was presented at the Miami Book Fair, held in November, 2015.
Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics
Richard E. Klein Jr., associate professor and assistant chair, has-coauthored an article entitled “Mindfulness in Information Technology Use; Conceptual and Operational Definitions,” which has been accepted by MIS Quarterly. Klein also serves as assistant dean for COB Undergraduate Affairs.
A paper by Karlene Cousins, associate professor, published in Information Technology & People in 2015, has been selected by the journal’s editorial team as a Highly Commended Paper in the 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. The paper is entitled “Managing work-life boundaries with mobile technologies: an interpretive study of mobile work practices.”

An article entitled “In human crisis capital, we need more H1-B visas, not fewer,” by Jerry Haar, professor, appeared in Miami Today on January 7, 2016. Also, Haar’s column “The Devaluation Dilemma” appeared in Latin Trade on January 20, 2016.
Karen Paul, professor, was quoted in a Christian Science Monitor article entitled “Bathroom wars: Why a conservative group is boycotting Target,” authored by Christina Beck. The article appeared on April 27, 2016.
Samantha Paustian-Underdahl, assistant professor, presented research titled “Perceptions of Supervisor Support: Resolving Paradoxical Patterns Across Race and Gender” at the 2016 Leadership Excellence and Gender Symposium at Purdue University on March 29, 2016. She also presented work titled “How do Employee Preferences Interact with Department Boundary Management Support in Relating to Work-Family Conflict and Promotability?” to the Columbus, Georgia, chapter of the Georgia Association of Women’s Lawyers on March 15, 2016.
Juan Sanchez, professor and Knight Ridder Byron Harless Eminent Scholar Chair in Management, has been appointed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain’s Government to serve in the Ramon y Cajal Panel, a panel of international scientists charged with awarding 5-year research grants. He has previously served in three similar panels for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
A paper co-authored by Ochieng F. Walumbwa, associate professor, was accepted for publication by the African Journal of Management. The article is entitled “Workplace Family Resources and Service Performance: The Mediating Role of Work Engagement.”

Kimberly Taylor, associate professor, was quoted in an article “Live (stream) from South Florida! Popular webcams showcase seaports, marinas, beaches,” which appeared in the Sun Sentinel on January 25, 2016. Also, a paper entitled “Hola or Hello: The Effects of Hispanic Bilinguals’ Language Use and Stereotype Activation on Negotiation Outcomes” coauthored by Taylor, Carolina Gomez and Cecilia Alvarez, has been accepted for publication in a special issue on Language Use in Services by the Journal of Business Research.
Raymond Rody, clinical professor, was quoted in an article “January madness: Powerball pools drive offices bonkers,” which appeared in the Miami Herald on January 12, 2017.
Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate
A paper by Eli Beracha, assistant professor, entitled “On the Relation between Local Amenities and House Price Dynamics,” was awarded the Best Practitioner Paper Award at the 2016 American Real Estate Society (ARES) conference.
William Hardin, professor and director, has been appointed as an editor of Journal of Real Estate Research, the flagship Journal of the American Real Estate Society (ARES). He will also serve as the president of the ARES for the 2016-17 academic year. In addition, Hardin was quoted in an April 25, 2016, Miami Herald article by Emily Michot entitled “A Mexican bureaucrat and his family’s $8.2 million Miami condo spending spree.”
Suzanne Hollander, instructor, was quoted in a Miami Herald article by David Smiley entitled “Is Genting looking to flip former Miami Herald property?” which appeared April 25, 2016. Hollander was also quoted in a Yahoo! Finance article entitled “13 Surprising Extras That Add Value to Homes,” by Brie Davis. The article appeared April 14, 2016.
